Padres beat Giants in 11-1 rout, take first in NL West

SAN FRANCISCO (KYMA, KECY) - The San Diego Padres left no doubt in Wednesday night's series finale, dismantling the San Francisco Giants 11-1 at Oracle Park to secure a three-game sweep.

Nick Pivetta set the tone on the mound, allowing just one run over 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out five, walked one, and at one point retired 11 consecutive Giants hitters.

The win improved Pivetta to 12-4 on the year and extended San Diego's win streak to five games moving them a game ahead of the Dodgers in the National League West after Los Angeles fell 6-5 to the Angels.

The Padres' offense exploded early, plating seven runs in the second inning. Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. each delivered two-run singles, with Cronenworth's coming on a soft liner that deflected off second base and rolled into shallow center turning what could've been a double play into a key run-scoring moment.

Newly acquired Ramón Laureano stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-5 and blasting a two-run homer in the fifth for his 17th of the season. That shot was part of a three-run frame that put the game firmly out of reach.

The Giants, meanwhile, saw their struggles deepen. The loss was their fifth straight, all at home, during which they've been outscored 32-5.

San Francisco also watched Dominic Smith's 15-game hitting streak, the longest active run in the majors, come to an end with an 0-for-4 night.

San Diego now heads to Los Angeles for a critical three-game set with the Dodgers starting Friday.
