2026 Prep Football team previews: San Pasqual Warriors
San Pasqual football looks to finish games by improving conditioning
WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA) - San Pasqual football enters the 2026 season with a familiar goal: win every game.
For fourth-year head coach Miguel Rivas, achieving that goal starts with learning how to finish.
The Warriors once again enter the season with low numbers, making conditioning a major focus during the offseason. Rivas said the team has increased its conditioning workload in hopes of preventing late-game struggles.
"We conditioned a lot last year. We're conditioning even more this year," Rivas said. "I tell them after practice, 'you guys want last year to happen again, or do you want to be able to finish those games and win those games?'"
Senior running back Alex Acuna said the Warriors also need to bring more intensity to practice.
"We have to lock in. We have to be disciplined," Acuna said. "Start showing 100% every practice because we're not."
Junior defensive end and wide receiver Jordan Rea echoed that message, saying the Warriors have struggled to maintain their level of play for an entire game.
"We always just play like half of a game," Rea said. "And then the rest of the half, we just let the other team win, and we just need to finish games."
While San Pasqual hopes improved conditioning will translate to more wins, the Warriors also believe their team chemistry can help them take another step forward.
Senior quarterback Alfred Cornejo said the team's brotherhood has continued to grow as players have gotten to know one another.
"The brotherhood is really exciting," Cornejo said. "It’s a lot of fun. Everyone’s basically becoming friends."
Rivas said one of the biggest positives entering the season has been the improvement he's seen from players who were on the team last year.
"One of the things that stands out to me most is the improvement of pretty much everybody that played last season," Rivas said.
Junior tight end and defensive end Sabian Jackson believes that improvement can translate into a much better season.
"Last year, we didn’t win a lot of games, but I feel like this year we can come back with a lot of wins," Jackson said.
With improved conditioning, stronger team chemistry and a group determined to finish what it starts, the Warriors are hoping those changes lead to a winning record.
