Morgan’s Game Day Grub with Cameron Kasid

Chile rellenos, candy salads and Kasid's commitment to Phoenix College were just some of the things Morgan and the former Cibola Raider talked about

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Former Cibola High School softball standout and Phoenix College commit Cameron Kasid may be preparing for the next chapter of her career, but one thing she knows she will miss is her mom's cooking.

Kasid joined KYMA Sports Director Morgan Feller for the latest episode of Morgan's Game Day Grub at El Charro Cafe, where she discussed her favorite foods, game-day traditions and how she's preparing for life as a collegiate athlete.

Kasid said Mexican food reminds her of home, with her mother's chile rellenos sitting at the top of her favorite meals.

"I always tell my mom, 'When are you going to make the chile rellenos? I'm craving these,'" Kasid said. "I'm going to learn how to make them now that I'm going to college. Hopefully I'll be able to make them when I'm in college."

While she plans to learn the family recipe, Kasid joked that the biggest ingredient is simply having her mom in the kitchen.

"It's just always in that mom's hands that always makes the food taste delicious," she said.

Softball has also introduced Kasid to a few unique traditions, including one that has become a staple in dugouts across the sport: the candy salad.

Before games, teammates each bring a favorite candy, combine them into one bowl and snack throughout the contest.

"You can't go wrong with candy," Kasid said. "Whoever came up with that is a genius."

As she prepares to begin her career at Phoenix College, Kasid has already started adjusting her training and nutrition. She said her focus has shifted toward eating more protein while continuing a strength-training program.

"You can't go wrong with steak, chicken and rice," Kasid said. "With some vegetables next to it, too."

Off the field, Kasid also enjoys coffee and matcha. Her go-to Starbucks order is a brown sugar shaken espresso with oat milk, while her favorite local drink is a matcha latte with banana, vanilla and oat milk from Azul Cafe.

One of the more memorable meals she's tried came during a family trip to Mexico. While visiting Xcaret, Kasid thought she was ordering a traditional mole dish before discovering it was served with duck.

"I ate it, and it was good," Kasid said. "But something felt off."

Although college softball is just around the corner, Kasid said she's looking forward to the opportunity and embracing everything that comes with the next stage of her career, even if it means learning to cook a few family favorites herself.
