11U Cal Ripken All-Stars shine bright for Arizona

Yuma All-Stars get bid to represent Arizona at the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Yuma 11U Cal Ripken All-Stars will represent Arizona at the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament after winning the Arizona state championship.

The regional tournament is scheduled for July 12-18 in Fallon, Nevada, where Yuma will face state champions from Hawaii, Utah, California and Nevada as the lone Arizona representative in the field.

The state title capped a season highlighted by strong teamwork and resilience throughout the All-Stars' championship run.

Head coach Francisco Rios said the opportunity means more than just competing for a regional title.

"Being able to represent the town I'm from, just being able to take 13 kids and to showcase what Yuma is all about," Rios said. "There's a lot of talent in Yuma, and just being able to go out there and play for our city. It just feels great seeing these kids go out there and do what they love to do the best."

To help cover travel expenses, the team will hold a raffle and operate a snack bar during league games June 27-28 at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.

After additional practices and tune-up games, the All-Stars will travel to Nevada in hopes of extending their postseason run and bringing another title back to Yuma.
