Yuma Blue Sox host tryouts ahead of first season in new league
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Yuma Blue Sox are preparing for a new chapter as the local baseball team makes the jump to a new league and searches for fresh talent to join the roster.
With the support of a new sponsor, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1627, the team hosted tryouts to find local players ready to compete as the Blue Sox enter their first year in the Imperial Valley Men's Summer League.
The team is scheduled to play once a week throughout June and July, followed by a tournament in August.
Tryouts were aimed at building a competitive roster as the Blue Sox transition into a more challenging league environment.
The Blue Sox are seeking players ranging in age from 16 through college. Head coach Brian Adams said the move to the Imperial Valley Men's League raises the level of competition, making it important to identify skilled players who can help the team succeed.
He plans to continue scouting and recruiting new talent throughout the winter and spring months to strengthen the roster.
"This is a more competitive, senior-style league," Adams said. "Today's tryout is about getting ballplayers out here and finding more talent so we can go over there and compete."
Participation with the Yuma Blue Sox is free of charge, making it an accessible opportunity for local athletes looking to continue playing baseball at a competitive level.
Updates on additional tryouts and ways to get involved with the team will be shared as the summer season approaches.
