Kofa’s Reina sends Nike RBI D-Backs to World Series Final
VERO BEACH, Fla. (KYMA, KECY) - Five Yuma County baseball standouts are heading to the championship game of the RBI World Series after a dramatic extra-inning win Friday morning.
The Nike RBI D-Backs, who went 3-0 in pool play earlier this week, faced a grueling 14-inning battle in the semifinals. That's when Kofa High School graduate Julio Reina stepped up to the plate with a chance to win it all.
Reina drove a pitch deep to left field just shy of the wall, but far enough to bring in the game-winning run.
The clutch hit sent his teammates into celebration mode and punched Arizona's ticket to the title game.
The D-Backs will now take on RBI Indy for the championship.
First pitch for the championship game is set for Friday in Florida.
