Yuma Madrid players wrap up National Championship run

TAMPA, Fla. (KYMA, KECY) - Several players from local soccer club Yuma Madrid wrapped up a standout run at the U.S. Youth Soccer National President's Cup in Tampa, Florida.

Representing Arizona, the team bounced back from a 4-1 loss to Pennsylvania with a 3-2 win over Tennessee and a 2-1 victory against Wisconsin to earn a spot in the national championship game.

In a rematch with Pennsylvania on Monday, they fell just short in a 1-0 loss.

Head coach Ruben Perez Sr. said, "It was an honor to represent our community, our state, our far west region, which involves all the western states of the U.S. It was a true honor and a great opportunity for our kids to play at that high level."

Perez noted that several players will be moving on to the collegiate level and said the game marked the final chapter of their youth soccer journey.

"Today was the last day of the last tournament of the last year of their youth soccer career. Throughout the years they grew so much on and off the field," he said. "It was an honor to be able to coach them."

The team made up of several Yuma Madrid players finished the tournament as one of the top club teams in the nation closing their season with pride, effort, and a legacy that will last beyond the final whistle.
