Holtville rolls past Cibola 56-0, hands Raiders first loss

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Cibola Raiders entered Friday night's matchup with Holtville riding a perfect 3-0 start and averaging 50 points per game.

But the Vikings quickly flipped the script, scoring 22 points in less than five minutes and never looking back in a 56-0 win at Raider Field.

Holtville got on the board on its second play from scrimmage when a long touchdown run by Rodrigo Martinez was followed by a successful two-point conversion by Leo Riebeling.

After recovering an onside kick, the Vikings immediately went back to work. Michael Munoz took a direct snap, followed a lead block from Kai Gonzalez and broke to the outside.

After a pair of stiff-arms, Munoz was brought down at the one-yard line before scoring on the next play.

Holtville added another touchdown on its next possession when Gonzalez found Martinez, who shook off one defender and brushed off another before breaking free for his second score of the night, giving the Vikings a 22-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.

Cibola caught a break when Gonzalez fumbled a snap and Alexander Martinez recovered, but the Raiders could not turn the turnover into points.

The Cibola defense later came up with a big play of its own when Gonzalez kept the ball on a play-action pass, only for Miguel Valtierra to make an acrobatic defensive play.

Holtville continued to make things difficult for the Raiders through the air as well.

In the second quarter, Christian Rodriguez dropped back and floated a pass toward the back of the end zone, but Holtville's Isaac Jimenez came down with the interception.

Cibola was unable to find the end zone as the Vikings' defense continued to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard.

The loss was Cibola's first of the season, while Holtville returned to the win column with the 56-0 victory.
