Yuma Catholic’s historic run ends against Page in semifinals
Shamrocks Girls Basketball made it to the final four for the first time in program history
PHOENIX (KYMA) - The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks saw its historic postseason run come to an end Friday night.
Playing in the program's first-ever appearance in the AIA 3A Girls Basketball State Semifinals, the Shamrocks fell to the Page Sand Devils 57-48 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix.
Despite finishing the first half down, junior guard Amelia Borrallo kept Yuma Catholic within striking distance throughout the game.
The junior showcased her scoring ability with a spinning drive through traffic to close the first quarter, trimming the deficit to two. She finished with a season-high 32 points in the loss.
Despite battling in a back-and-forth contest, the Shamrocks were unable to overcome Page down the stretch.
The Sand Devils pulled away late to secure the nine-point victory and a spot in the state championship game where they would claim the title.
Though the season ended one step short of the championship game, Yuma Catholic's semi-final appearance marked a milestone moment for the program and capped a memorable run for the Shamrocks.
