San Pasqual rallies past Ray to reach state tournament

WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA) - In front of a packed home crowd, San Pasqual outlasted Ray 39-34 in a 1A state play-in game, punching their ticket to the state championship bracket.

San Pasqual would lead for the majority of the game, but with 10 seconds left, things would get interesting.

The Bearcats had one final opportunity in the closing seconds. Trailing by three with time dwindling, Ray attempted to inbound the ball, but Aaliyah Rea intercepted the pass, dribbled through contact and got the layup to fall while drawing a foul, sealing the victory.

As the final buzzer sounded, fans stormed to their feet in celebration. With the 39-34 win, San Pasqual advances to the state tournament and will face the Joseph City Wildcats on the road on Monday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
