CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) - On Friday, October 10, Aguilas de Mexicali is making the trip to Calexico to play a friendly match against a group of Imperial Valley All-Star ballplayers to raise money for Calexico High School and Mujeres que Viven, a foundation partnered with the Aguilas that supports Breast Cancer Awareness.
This will be the first event of its kind in recent memory, featuring expanded seating, food vendors and better field conditions.
Calexico Baseball's Head Coach Luis Briseno says he is excited for the event and wants it to become a yearly tradition.
"It's just a matter of just making it, memorable, the experience as well, the field condition as well, welcoming the community with a nice field, with vendors, food and all that stuff, and just opening it for the community of Calexico," Briseno said. "They love it, we love it, then, we can make it a tradition."
Randy Baez, a former Bulldog and Current Aguilas is excited for the event and to raise money for a good cause.
"It's spectacular. It's a different experience for all the people who come to see us. I would have liked to have this opportunity when I was in school here," Baez said. "We didn't have the chance, but now that it is here, we have to take advantage of it."
Doors for the event will open at 4:00 p.m. while first pitch is set to take place at 7:00 p.m.
