Central boy’s soccer wins first CIF Championship since 1989
Central boy's soccer caps off a dominant CIF playoff run with a victory over Orange Glenn in the championship game.
SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - The Central Spartans defeated the Orange Glenn Patriots 2-0 in the CIF San Diego Section Division III Championship Game.
Central wins their first boy's soccer CIF title since 1989.
In the first half, Angel Sandoval converted a penalty to put the Spartans ahead 1-0. In the second half, Joseph Rosas sealed the victory poking home a goal which started with a throw in.
"We see that banner in the gym and we're just thinking we want that to be 2025," senior captain Lorenzo Valenzuela said. "Now it's it's gonna happen and we're gonna hang that banner at school."
Central dominated the possession the majority of the match and created the bulk of scoring opportunities. Even more impressive is the Spartan defense. With this clean sheet, Central rolled through the entire bracket without conceding a goal.
"This group has so much chemistry," Valenzuela said. "We have young guys but they were able to merge with us really quickly. It's just amazing to see how how well we work together."
Central will now move on to the state tournament where they will look to continue their dominant run.
