IVL 1st place baseball battle

Southwest prevails over Brawley to stay atop league standings

EL CENTRO, Calif., (KYMA, KECY) - The 2 best Imperial Valley League baseball teams finally came "face to face" in El Centro on Tuesday night.

Both the Brawley Wildcats and the Southwest Eagles came into their 1st season league meeting with unbeaten 8-0 IVL records.

It was apparent that the winner of this game would have the inside track on a potential IVL title.

The Wildcats had previously defeated the Eagles in an early season tournament, but that game didn't count as a league contest.

The Eagles quickly erased that memory in the 2nd inning with an RBI double to take the 1-0 lead.

Brawley would respond in the top of the 3rd with an RBI of their own to tie it at 1-1.

Southwest would later reclaim the lead for good and hold off Brawley the rest of the way for the 2-1 win.

Both teams will get another crack at one another on Thursday night at Brawley with the opening pitch at 7 pm.
