Both Matadors basketball programs pick up wins

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Arizona Western College basketball officially tipped off its season, with both the men's and women's teams picking up victories on the court.

The men's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season following a dominant 80-58 win over the Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes.

The Matadors will now have an eight-day break before returning to action against Utah State Eastern in the Region 18 Challenge.

The women's team also came away with a narrow 80-78 victory, led by a standout performance from Jessica Liena.

Liena poured in 30 points while flirting with a triple-double, finishing with nine rebounds and seven steals. She scored the game-winning bucket with a few seconds left in the game.

The women's team will return to the court Friday night against North Idaho College.
