Dodgers advance to NLCS as Padres season comes to an end

MLB

The Los Angeles Dodgers are headed back to the National League Championship Series after defeating the Atlanta Braves 4-1 in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday night at Truist Park, clinching the series three games to one.

Atlanta grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Michael Harris II scored on a wild pitch by Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow. Los Angeles responded with a run in the second inning before breaking the tie in the seventh. With two runners aboard, Andy Pages delivered a two-run single to put the Dodgers ahead 3-1. Max Muncy added an insurance run in the ninth inning with a solo home run.

Glasnow allowed one run on one hit over 4.2 innings while striking out five. The Dodgers bullpen took over from there, combining for 4.1 scoreless innings and limiting Atlanta to just three hits in the game.

Braves starter Tyler Mahle turned in a strong performance, surrendering one run across 6.1 innings, but Atlanta's offense was unable to generate enough support as the Dodgers advanced to their third consecutive NLCS.

As for the San Diego Padres, their season has come to an end after a 3-1 series loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Walker Buehler started the game and pitched three innings, allowing one run. Robbie Ray followed in the fourth inning and also surrendered a run, while Jason Adam allowed another score later in relief.

The Padres' lone run came from Fernando Tatis Jr., who hit a solo home run.

San Diego nearly tied the game in the eighth inning when Manny Machado sent a deep fly ball toward center field, but Brewers center fielder Sal Frelick robbed Machado of a potential two-run home run.

The National League Championship Series begins Sunday, while the Padres head into the offseason following their playoff exit.
