2026 Prep Football Summer Series: Somerton Toros

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Somerton Toros showed plenty of heart under head football coach Cyril "Junior" Atherton in year one at the varsity level. Unfortunately, that didn't correlate to the program's first win.

One thing that the Toros have over all other teams in the Desert Southwest, however, is the return of the vast majority of last year's squad. With another year under their belt in Atherton's system, the team is well-prepped to master the head coach's schemes and fight for a victory.

"Now we've experienced that level of play," said Atherton in reference to competing against varsity teams. "We experienced that speed of the game - the physicality of the game. They learned the hard way, right? But, to us, any experience like that builds character, so our kids will come back stronger, come back bigger, come back faster."
