2026 Prep Football Summer Series: San Pasqual Warriors

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - In the first episode of Prep Football Summer Series, KYMA welcomed in San Pasqual head football coach Miguel Rivas. The Warriors finished 2-7 on the year and had an up-and-down season on both sides of the ball, scoring 30 or more points in four games, but surrendering 40 or more points in five games.

Star wide receiver Isaiah Martinez graduated after last year, but the Warriors bring back running back Alex Acuna and quarterback Alfred Cornejo.

Luckily, Rivas believes he has answers to the question mark that the absence of Martinez left.

"We have two young guys that are stepping up," he said. "They were both sophomores last year, going to be juniors this year. I got a glimpse of Jordy Rea last year and what he can do with the ball in his hands downfield. And then we have a kid stepping up this year on offense - Sabian Jackson."

Rivas is looking to bring more players out for the season, but is ready to roll with the athletes already suiting up.

With a smaller roster, more players will be playing both ways. Because of that, one emphasis this offseason is conditioning.

"Probably eight of our 11 starters, on both sides of the ball, played both ways. When you get to that fourth quarter [and] get tired, it can affect the tackling and things like that, and I think that's what happened to us, so this year we're conditioning a lot more, trying to help make sure those guys stay [ready for] the full 4 quarters."
