Arizona Western hosts 30th annual basketball clinic

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Young basketball players from across Yuma County had the opportunity to develop their skills and learn the fundamentals of the game during Arizona Western College's 30th annual youth basketball camp this week.

Led by Arizona Western head men's basketball coach Kyle Isaacs, the four-day camp took place at Castle Dome Middle School and welcomed approximately 130 participants ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The camp brought together Matador alumni and local high school coaches to help teach basketball fundamentals while providing a fun and active environment for young athletes during the start of their summer break.

"We love getting kids who just finished school," Isaacs said. "They've got their fresh look at summer and getting them off the iPad, get them off the Nintendo, and getting them active for the three or four hours that they're here at camp... we love that aspect of it... This is a fundamentals camp. This is a fun camp. We want them to be engaged to learn the game of basketball, to love the game of basketball, and it's just a basic fundamentals camp to introduce them to basketball and learn to love it."

The camp ran from Monday through Thursday, giving young athletes the chance to improve their basketball skills while learning from experienced coaches and former players from the community.
