CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) - After three years on the Bulldogs varsity squad, Leonel Canchola is continuing both his academic and athletic career at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.

Over his time with Calexico at linebacker, compiling 125 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks during his high school career, according to MaxPreps.

As he prepares for the next chapter, Canchola reflected on the influence of the upperclassmen who helped shape his development when he first joined the program.

"They were pretty nice, pretty chill, and that made me feel like, 'oh...they're good. I'm gonna be like them. I'm gonna be a good example,'" said Canchola. "It feels pretty good knowing that I'm gonna be playing, I'm gonna keep playing the sport I've been playing since I was little."

Canchola will head to Southwestern College at the end of the month to begin training for his first collegiate season.
