Cibola girls basketball gets big win at home over #18 Westwood

After being ranked just outside of the AIA Open Division top 32, the Lady Raiders got a big win over the team ranked 15 spots ahead of them - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Cibola girls basketball defeated the Westwood Warriors at home 61-34 on Wednesday night.

The Lady Raiders were the first team out of this week's AIA Open Division rankings, coming in at No. 33.

Cibola would be on the outside looking in at the Open Division playoffs, which features the top 32 teams in Arizona.

Head coach Anthony Gerg's squad had a chance on Thursday to vault up those rankings, as they hosted No. 18 Westwood.

If the Lady Raiders were looking to make a statement, they did just that.

Cibola finished the first quarter up 19-0, not giving up a single point to the Warriors squad ranked 15 spots above them.

The Lady Raiders will next take the court on the road against crosstown rival Gila Ridge on Jan. 17.

On that same day around 10 a.m. the next set of Open Division rankings will be released.
