Hawks advance

Gila Ridge softball wins 5A play-in round game

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Gila Ridge softball team is proof that late season momentum can make a huge difference in the postseason.

Coming off a 6-game winning streak to end the regular season, the Hawks would take advantage and defeat Mountain View Marana in the AIA 5A Play-in round at Gila Ridge High School.

Ridge was able to withstand the Mountain Lion's 3-run 5th inning, to rally in the 6th inning to eventually pull off the 5-3 win.

Hawks starting pitcher Klarissa Rader was effective, shutting out Mountain View in the 1st 3 innings, en route to her allowing 3 runs off of 8 hits; with a 6 strikeout performance.

The Hawks await their seeding and next opponent in the 1st round of the 5A state tournament.

The 1st round begins this Saturday.
