Hawks softball dominates Lady Kings

May 4th, 2021

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - With 2 games to go, Gila Ridge softball has the inside track on clinching a 5A playoff birth.

All the Hawks have to do to assure themselves a trip to the postseason is defeat crosstown foe Kofa 2 consecutive times.

On Tuesday night, the Hawks accomplished half of that mission.

Behind a steady overall hitting and another solid pitching performance by Senior Tinley Schmidgall, the Hawks soared to an 11-0 victory in only 5 innings.

Ridge's ace pitched every inning of the contest, only giving up 7 hits on the evening.

Lead-off hitter Kenzie Nakasawa almost hit for the cycle; hitting a single, a double, and a 3-run home run to lead the Hawks offense.

Gila Ridge will play it's regular home finale against Kofa on Wednesday afternoon, with the opening pitch at 4 pm.

This will be the final regular season game for both area programs.
