Gila Ridge wins YUHSD meet

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Union High School District track and field season culminated on Monday with the City Championship Meet at Cibola High School.

When the dust cleared, it was the Gila Ridge Hawks that won the meet in overall points for both the boys and girls categories.

Meanwhile, Cibola and Kofa placed in 2nd and 3rd overall, while San Luis and Yuma rounded out the 4th and 5th place spots in the overall point tallies.

Among the highlights of the meet, Gila Ridge's Philip Renaud placed 1st in the boys javelin with a new school record of 154 feet.

This, while Jaheim Wilson-Jones finished 1st in the boys 100 meter dash.

Meanwhile, Cibola's Bennett Meyer-Wills topped the competition in the 800 meter, the 1 mile, and the 2 mile races.

Teammate Ganelle Sanchez took 1st place in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles events.

Each school's list of student athletes qualifying for state competition will be released in the coming days.
