Wildcats looking ahead

Brawley football keeps building amidst current pandemic.

Like every other football program in the Desert Southwest and beyond, the Brawley Wildcats are missing out on Spring ball because of recent social isolation mandates passed down from California's governor and the CIF.

This is an intriguing offseason for the Wildcats, where they are bringing back talented Sophomore and Senior classes in hopes to capturing the program's 1st Imperial Valley League title since 2016.

But, with social isolation still in place and school's possibly not opening back up until July or August; the immediate future for prep football is still up in the air for the upcoming Fall.

Cats head coach Jon Self is currently implementing a individual workout accountability for his student athletes and his upperclassmen are now stepping up in getting themselves and the underclassmen up to speed:

"I'm most proud that my seniors are taking the lead on this. And they are working with some of the younger kids. they are taking the lead on building relationships with those guys and telling them what Brawley football is all about. What Friday nights are like out there."

As Brawley looks to keep building it's players (even through individual workouts) up for the coming season, Self is hopeful that everyone takes to heart the greatest lesson that can be learned by everyone in the program.

"I think it's a lesson we always try to teach in football is that we are stronger as a group than we are as an individual. And those guys learning how to work together is going to help them later in life,"
