AWC to host NJCAA Division 1 Softball Championship tournament in 2021 and 2022
AWC, the City of Yuma, Caballeros de Yuma, Visit Yuma, and Yuma International Airport introduced the announcement on Wednesday.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western College and the City of Yuma will host the National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 Softball Championship in Yuma, May of 2021 and 2022.
The tournament will include 16 teams from across the country and will take place at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex on May 26-29, 2021, and May 25-28, 2022.
Mayor Doug Nicholls believes the national championship event in the PAAC will help build the sports tourism culture in the Yuma.
City Administrator Philip Rodriguez says athletic tournaments help the economy with local spending which will support hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.
The AWC softball team went to the NJCAA Championship tournament last season in St. George, Utah.
