IVL boys soccer rivalry renewed!

Calexico "outlasts" Central to win 1st leg of the regular season series.

Calexico's Alejandro Serrano

Before taking a holiday break and resuming their respective seasons in January, prep boys soccer rivals Calexico and Central met on a chilly Thursday night at Cal Jones Field.

Even if it was an early season match-up, this contest could have a lot to say about who could potentially claim the Imperial Valley League title a couple of months down the road.

In the 1st half, the Bulldogs would get off to a hot start; as Alex Serrano and Brandon Galvan would both punch in a goal each, and give the visitors the 2-nil lead at the half.

But, like many other rivalries, this match would not be 1-sided.

The Spartans came out of the gates at the start of the 2nd half, as Brandon Lua and Sebastian Felix both hit shots that found the back of the net to tie this match at 2-2.

But, the Bulldogs would find a way to clinch this one, when Serrano added his 2nd goal of the night that wound up making the difference of the match.

Calexico was able to take the 3-2 win at Central.

Both teams will meet again down in Calexico on January 28th.
