NYPD gears up for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding
NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - Taylor Swift's wedding is shaping up to be a "love story" for the record books as the New York Police Department (NYPD) is gearing up for the highly-anticipated celebration at Madison Square Garden (MSG), which reportedly includes a rehearsal dinner Thursday night.
Crews hung giant tarps outside the loading docks at Madison square garden Wednesday, presumably in an attempt to keep prying eyes away from the biggest celebrity wedding of the year.
Although Taylor Swift and her fiancee, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, have made no official announcement.
Law enforcement sources tell CBS News around 100 people are expected to gather for a rehearsal dinner Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.
On Friday, a thousand lucky VIPs will attend the wedding celebration, with a 4 p.m. Eastern cocktail hour, followed by a 5:30 p.m. Eastern ceremony in the same arena where Swift has performed to sold-out crowds. The reception is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Eastern and run until 2 a.m. Eastern.
Despite the buzz, some fans outside Swift's Manhattan apartment aren't entirely convinced.
"I thought she'd be more of like a natural sunlight girly, you know, somewhere far away in Europe," said Isabella Luna, a Swift fan.
Swift's private security, along with more than 100 NYPD officers, will be on site to control crowds.
On Wednesday, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch declined to confirm the big day was happening at MSG, but she did say her force is prepared.
"I would be remiss not to mention an event that we are tracking at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, but I am not going to into more specifics at this time," Commissioner Tisch explained.
Swift recently said she'd like to invite anyone she's ever met to to her wedding.
While there isn't an official guest list, some of Swift's close friends, like Selena Gomez and her longtime producer Jack Antonoff, are expected to attending the wedding celebrations, and the wedding is also a black-tie event and a strict no-phone policy.
