NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - On May 6, 2004, the final episode of Friends aired on NBC. It's estimated that over 50 million people tuned in to watch the finale, making it one of the most-watched tv show finales in U.S. history.

The show ran for 10 seasons in total and revolved around six friends in their 20s and early 30s living in Manhattan.

The ensemble cast starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

According to the New York Times, some 3,000 people watched the finale from blankets and lawn chairs at an outdoor screening of the finale at Hudson River Park's Pier 25 after the TriBeCa Film Festival gave out free tickets to the screening.

The episode also aired on one of the big screens in Times Square.
