Massive explosions erupt after fireworks stand in Oklahoma catches fire

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (CBS, KYMA) - Colorful explosions lit up the sky in a northeast Oklahoma city after a fireworks stand caught fire Saturday.

Rodney Rhea told Storyful he was out grilling on his back patio when he heard several loud booms. He said it quickly turned into the layered noises of explosion after explosion.

"The fireworks stand is walking distance from the house but my wife, daughter, and I jumped in the van to see what we expected was happening – the entire tent full of fireworks going off in an amazing display," Rhea said. "We were scared for anyone that might have been inside and hoping that they managed to escape before being hurt or even killed."

The Broken Arrow Fire Department (BAFD) said they received a call at about 8:50 p.m. Central regarding the incident.

"Upon arrival, BAFD engine four arrived to find a fireworks stand on fire with fireworks actively detonating," BAFD said. "As other crews arrived, firefighters were able to quickly control the scene and extinguish the fire in about 20 minutes."

No injuries were reported.
