El Centro mayor delivers State of the City Address

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) - The City of El Centro hosted its annual State of the City Address Thursday morning, reflecting on the community's roots while laying out a clear blueprint for future growth and economic development.
Mayor Michael Crankshaw delivered the address in the City Council Chambers, framing this year's message around the theme of "Past, Present, and Future."
"I selected the theme past, present, and future to remember how far we've come as a community," Mayor Crankshaw said during the presentation. "And to consider all the uncertainty that we all have right now, there's a tremendous, tremendous amount out there to set a course for success and to help us navigate through the obstacles."
The presentation featured three distinct video segments that tracked El Centro's historical trajectory from its early beginnings to the modern municipality it is today.
Moving forward, city leaders are prioritizing significant investments across several core sectors, including public safety, infrastructure improvements, and park developments.
A central focus of the morning was the strong partnership between city government and local commerce.
Imperial Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce Board President Victor Nava attended the event and highlighted a robust period of local business growth over the last fiscal year.
"We love to support our business community and shared the excitement and experience when they open the doors to new business or additional locations," Nava said. "As you can see from the numbers, the city of El Centro celebrated 10 ribbon cuttings in the fiscal year of 2025 and 2026."
Mayor Crankshaw emphasized that the city's upward momentum relies heavily on its residents and local stakeholders, keeping a humble perspective on the role of local government.
"We truly as the council are just community members trying to do the best we can for our community. That’s simply all this is," Crankshaw noted. "Hard work, dedication, resilience have shaped our city into what we are today. This morning we celebrated our community by reflecting on our accomplishments and look ahead at the opportunities that we will shape."
For community members who were unable to attend the morning address in person, the complete presentation was live-streamed.
A full replay of the event can be accessed via the city's YouTube channel.
