FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking a soggy start to the week with drier days ahead

It's a First Alert Action Day due to the consistent shower activity. Lingering showers are still possible through tonight. I am also tracking cooler-than-normal temperatures for the first half of the week, with drier and warmer conditions ahead.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- It's been a soggy start to the week, as we finally had a nice round of showers to bring us some wet weather, thanks to the tropical moisture from the south. This also brought some measurable rain in the area. We did have some light showers yesterday and then with the heavier rain today, it brought in some measurable rain. Take a look at our rain totals from the past 24 hours.

Yuma County had higher rain totals with this round of rain where most areas received a quarter of an inch or slightly higher.

Imperial County also saw some measurable rain where most areas received over a tenth of an inch.

Still tracking Hurricane Polo as Polo is expected to make landfall in Baja California later tonight as a Category 1 hurricane. Polo will continue to weaken, but will push moisture toward the north east. We aren't expected to see any major impacts in the Desert Southwest.

A Flood WATCH is in effect toward our north and east of Yuma County, but Quartzite is under this Flood Watch until 4 a.m. Tuesday. This is due to a chance for significant storms and rainfall being possible tonight and into the morning.

On our futretrack hour-by-hour still watching out for additional showers and chance for thunderstorms through tonight and early Tuesday morning.

Lingering tropical moisture may still bring some showers into Tuesday, but it is looking to favor further east as the Desert Southwest will begin drying out.

As a lower pressure continues to stay in place it will keep our temperatures noticeably cooler and trending below average.

Looking ahead for tomorrow we have less rain chances for the Desert Southwest, but we will feel a little breezy with gusts up to 25 MPH as winds will be coming from the north/northwest.

Tracking clearer and drier conditions with cooler than normal temperatures for the majority of the week. It will be a great close to September and nice start to Ocotber.

Temperatures will warm up slightly above normal by the weekend where highs will climb back into the triple digits. We are in for a fantastic week ahead.
