Authorities in Illinois are investigating after woman found dead shot in car

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. (NBC, KYMA) - A man suspected in the deaths of a woman and small child in Peoria County, Illinois has been taken into custody.

Authorities were called to a home early Friday for a vehicle fire and discovered a child inside once the fire was extinguished.

According to authorities, the vehicle had been driven from a previous location before the driver crashed.

Authorities searched the home that the vehicle was associated with and found a woman inside with a gunshot wound.

She was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Authorities say two other children were in the home, but were not harmed.

The investigation continues as to how the tragic events unfolded.
