Protesters gathered at proposed site of the Triumphal Arch in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC, KYMA) - President Trump's proposed Triumphal Arch is another step closer to assuming its place among the landmarks of the nation's capital.

The Federal Aviation Administration has determined that the proposed site for the arch, near Arlington National Cemetery, won't pose a risk to aircraft.

A statement released Friday saying that FAA safety experts reviewed airspace, air traffic patterns and procedures around Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, as well as operations at nearby military/public-use airports.

But the agency added the arch must be be appropriately lighted so that it's noticeable for pilots.

The arch has faced legal challenges though Interior Secretary Doug Burgum recently predicted that they would soon break ground.

Meanwhile, protesters continue gathering at the proposed site, among them veterans and preservationists, expressing their concern and opposition for the project.
