FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking extended heat warning and humid conditions with storm chances

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is EXTENDED until 8 pm Sunday due to dangerous temperatures and high humidity through the weekend. I am also tracking rising storm chances for the rest of the week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- An Extreme Heat Warning is EXTENDED until 8 p.m. SUNDAY for the Desert Southwest due to dangerously hot and humid conditions.

Highs will be between 106-114 degrees, and overnight lows between 84-91 degrees. With the heat and higher humidity, heat index levels will also be high. Our "feels like temperatures" will be between 110-120 degrees.

This extreme heat warning is also in effect due to consistent heat for the next several days and no relief even at night.

We have a ridge of high pressure in the Desert Southwest keeping the Desert Southwest hot where are highs will be trending over 110 degrees the next several days. This will also bring major heat risk, so that means this heat can impact anyone, so it is important to practice heat safety at all times.

It's been feeling very sticky! Dew points are staying elevated for the next several days. And this humidity will make it feel even hotter and very uncomfortable outside.

We have a current monsoonal setup where our current ridge of high pressure will be steering a surge of monsoonal moisture to the area. This will bring and increase our rain and storm chances for the rest of the week.

I am tracking chance for scattered showers and storms starting Thursday, but higher chances is expected Friday morning.

Keep in mind if any storms do develop it could bring heavy rain, flooding, and gusty winds. Also, with the active storms to the east that could lead to outflow boundaries and it can still bring rain, gusty winds, and blowing dust to our area as well.

With the possible rain and storms to reach the area in the days ahead, we could see measurable rainfall in some areas. Totals are forecasting low for now, but higher amounts come in thunderstorms.

Also, keep in mind not every area will see rain, but it will be pretty scattered. Take a look at which areas and how much rain we could see on our Futuretrack hour-by-hour map.

I am also EXTENDING our Weather Authority First Alert Action Day through SUNDAY due to long lasting heat and humidity. Stay cool and hydrated!

There are chance for showers and storms being possible Thursday and through early next week. Always be alert, prepared, and storm ready!
