Two firefighters dead after helicopter crash in Utah

MILLARD COUNTY, UT (NBC, KYMA) - Officials confirm two people involved in a helicopter crash near the Widemouth 2 fire burning in Utah are dead.

The crash happened Friday in the Three Creeks Reservoir area near Richfield.

The two firefighters were riding in Sikorsky S-64 helicopter or skycrane when it went down just after 10:30 a.m.

Access to the scene was initially compromised by the fire, which has now burned over 111,000 acres.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash. The names and ages of the two firefighters were not immediately released.

Utah Highway Patrol escorted their remains to State Medical Examiner's Office in a procession Saturday night.
