Tracking extreme heat moving in this week

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Now that summer has begun, get ready for some extreme heat on the way. I am tracking major heat risks and some of the hottest temperatures of the year so far, starting the middle of this week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Happy Monday! Temperatures are trending just a little bit above-average. It may be warm now, but tracking even hotter temperatures on the way this week.

We are in for a warm evening to kick off the week, with overnight lows cooling into the 80s by the morning. Cool off with some ice cream after dinner.

A strong high pressure will peak across the region by the middle of the week, with daytime highs likely reaching their peak on Wednesday or Thursday with highs between 110-114.

An Extreme Heat WATCH is already issued for 10 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Thursday for parts of Yuma and Imperial County due to major heat risks and highs between 108-114 degrees.

HEADS UP! There is a chance for monsoonal moisture to enter the region this week. So not only will it be hot, but dew points will be a little elevated at times throughout the day.

Rain chances aren't looking promising for our area as of now.

We may see some clouds at times with a touch of humidity, but temperatures are on the rise.

Daytime highs will climb at or near 114 making Wednesday-Thursday making it the hottest days of the week. Even overnight lows will be heating up as well, as we will have lows in the mid to low 80s.

With this incoming extreme heat ahead, I am issuing a Weather Authority First Alert Action Days Wednesday-Thursday due to the extreme and dangerous heat ahead.

Thankfully, this won't be a long heat wave, I am tracking cooler temperatures by the weekend and a chance for monsoonal moisture next week.

With this incoming heat we have major heat risks for the Desert Southwest, remember to hydrate and stay inside if you can.

Here are your heat safety tips that will help you this week, and so you can prevent heat-related illnesses.

LOOKING AHEAD! There is a chance for monsoonal moisture to return to the Desert Southwest this week, but higher changes are favoring the last week of June and early July where there are chance we could see above-normal rainfall.

It is still too far out, and there are some uncertainties, but I will keep tracking and bringing you details as we get closer. Stay tuned!
