Tracking heat and humidity for the weekend

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Lingering moisture will carry into the weekend, keeping us humid with a slight chance for showers and isolated storms into Saturday. Hotter temperatures are also expected this weekend, with higher heat next week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- It's Day 4 for Monsoon Awareness Week, and today's topic is dust storms.

These monsoon storms can pop up quickly, causing strong and damaging winds that can generate dense blowing dust.

Remember if you ever encounter any blowing dust, always PULL ASIDE, STAY ALIVE.

Today we are feeling the humidity as extra moisture has moved in from the south, elevating our dew points. This humidity will carry into the weekend.

Going into the evening, we will stay cloudy, warm, and humid. It will be great to stay inside where it's cool. Perfect Friday night to go see a movie.

With this low-pressure system staying in place in the Desert Southwest, it will increase a southerly flow, steering in moisture from the south.

There is still a chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms for the weekend. Chances are low, but it is possible.

Higher heat is also going to have an impact for the Desert Southwest, as highs will be climbing near 110 or over. Temperatures are expected to trend 6-8 degrees above-average this weekend.

Tracking some lingering clouds and moisture is still possible for the weekend. We have slight chances for isolated showers and storms for Saturday.

But the heat is here, and I am tracking hot temperatures this weekend and even hotter temperatures by next week.

Summer is pretty much here! With the hotter temperatures this weekend and next week, we have moderate and major heat risks across the Desert Southwest, so remember to practice heat safety.
