$70 billion in ICE, border funding draws mixed reaction from locals

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - $70 billion in additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol is drawing mixed reaction from locals.

The funding package would be used for staffing, technology and other immigration enforcement efforts.

While some welcome the move, others are raising their concerns.

"I really, actually would prefer to see more money spent on that to protect us and to move the people out that are here illegally. Until we have a system in place," said Nancy Hawkins, a Yuma County local.

"They've taken so many benefits from students, to people who need it like medically, and well, I just think that money is needed more by the people than by ICE," said Sabino Ramirez, another local.

The money is expected to help fund operations through the remainder of President Trump's term.
