Tracking rising temperatures and dangerous heat ahead

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Summer is almost here! I am tracking some of the hottest temperatures of the year so far that are expected to move in this weekend. We could see high temperatures climbing near 110 or over.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Check this out! A really cool photo of the Venus and Jupiter alignment from last night. This is a sky view right here in Yuma.

If you have any photos share them here.

Today is Day 4 for Monsoon Awareness Week and today's topic is lightning.

Lightning averages seasonal and hourly. Over half a million lightning strikes per season. Lightning (and rain) most likely from noon through early evening.

Keep in mind when thunder roars, GO INDOORS!

No place outside is safe when a storm is near. Hear thunder? Get inside immediately. Wait 30 mins after the last rumble to go back out.

Pour a glass of sunshine and celebrate National Iced Tea Day! And with our temperatures, it will be a toasty evening, so a glass of iced tea will be cool and refreshing.

Tracking to ridge of high pressure system toward our east and west of the Desert Southwest to bring in hotter temperatures.

However, there is a lower pressure system toward the south that may filter in some moisture from the Eastern Pacific later this week.

Tracking tropical moisture in Baja which may lead to slight (15-20%) chances for showers & storms across the AZ lower deserts Friday and Saturday AM. The main concern at this time is the threat of some lightning. Forecast uncertainty is high regarding exactly where showers/storms will form. Stay tuned.

I am tracking some clouds and warmer temperatures later this week. If any moisture makes it to the Desert Southwest, temperatures won't be as hot, but still going to be well-above-average.

However, we are in for higher and dangerous heat eventually. Right now, it is looking like we will have highs 110 and over this weekend and early next week, with overnight lows in the 80s.
