Weather Authority/ KYMA

The heat is on! Tracking summer-like heat for the weekend with even hotter temperatures early next week. We do have moderate and major heat risks for the Desert Southwest.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Happy Friday! Triple-digits arrived this afternoon.

Taking a look at our hour-by-hour temperatures for the next 12 hours, you can see warm temperatures will linger into our evening. It may be warm even after the sun goes down, but there is still not much relief.

A strong ridge of high pressure will be taking over for the next several days bringing a summer-like heat wave across the region. This will turn-up the heat here in the Desert Southwest making it a toasty weekend ahead.

Make sure you get your fans rolling to try and stay cool.

An Extreme Heat Watch has been UPGRADED into an Extreme Heat WARNING for the western Imperial County, and it includes Ocotillo and Salton City. This will go into effect at 10 a.m. Sunday- 8p.m. Monday for highs between 105-112 degrees.

There's also an Air Quality Alert for parts of Imperial County and it does include Imperial Valley and El Centro due to harmful levels of ozone pollution.

We are in for a sunny and calm weather through early next week, but temperatures will continue to climb through Mother's Day weekend.

The focus will be on this unseasonable heat and hotter temperatures early next week as highs will be nearing that 110 mark.

Now these aren't the hottest temperatures we have experienced here in the Desert Southwest, but it is 10-15 degrees above-average, so that is hot for early May.

With this round of heat, it will bring moderate heat risks this weekend and major heat risks early next week to the Desert Southwest, so remember to hydrate and stay indoors if you can.

If you are going to be outdoors, take frequent shade breaks. And NEVER leave pets, children, or ANYONE in a parked car at any point of the day. Also, don't forget about your furry friends and making sure they are cool and have plenty of water.
