Mexicali students taken to hospital after inhaling cleaning product fumes

MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA) - 12 people were intoxicated by chemical products at a middle school in Mexicali Wednesday.

10 students and two teachers from middle school Number 38 were intoxicated after inhaling fumes from cleaning products that were mixed inside the campus.

The 12 people were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation after experiencing symptoms such as dizziness and severe headaches.

"The cleaning was done very early, around six in the morning, with a highly concentrated cleaning product. When the firefighters arrived, they still found strong odors. The entire classroom had to be ventilated. We are investigating what happened," said Firefighter Chief Ruben Dario Osuna.

As a precaution, classes at the school were suspended to prevent additional cases of intoxication.
