FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking showers through Christmas
A strong lower pressure system is arriving and pushing in lots of moisture to the region. This will bring scattered to widespread showers through Christmas with possible flooding.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - A big weather pattern change where a strong lower pressure system also being called an Atmospheric River will steer in lots of moisture to the region and the Desert Southwest starting today and through the holiday.
More significant weather and flooding will favor along the coast of California.

A Weather Authority First Alert ACTION Days is in effect through Thursday morning due to widespread and scattered showers, being possible through the holiday. There could also be flooding risks within our area if any heavy rainfall occurs.

With today's showers we had this afternoon, here are today's rain totals for both Yuma and Imperial Counties. Rain totals were pretty low, but hey, it was measurable, so we will take it. Take a look below.


More scattered and widespread showers are possible on Wednesday (Christmas Eve). The best time is looking to favor during the evening and overnight hours.


Rain accumulation is also expected, with totals between a tenth of an inch or less. Some areas could reach up to a quarter of an inch in parts of the Desert Southwest.
These are just estimates; higher amounts are possible along with moderate to heavy rainfall.

TRAVELCAST: Heads up to those who are traveling tomorrow. With all the active weather, especially along the coast of California, it will bring travel impacts and concerns.
Make sure to plan accordingly and travel safely.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day will stay in place through Christmas morning because of the wet weather. We will also have cooler temperatures, but still warmer than normal through the workweek.
Looking ahead to next week, we are expected to have even cooler temperatures and more rain chances for next week.
