FIRST ALERT: Tracking increasing rain chances for Christmas week

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Tracking a pattern change to move in this week, which is expected to bring the Desert Southwest wet weather and cooler temperatures for the holiday.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- It's a calm and warm start to the week, but we have big changes on the way.

We have an incoming lower-pressure system coming from the west, which will bring a surge of moisture to the Desert Southwest in the days ahead.

Rain chances will continue to climb, with the wettest days are favoring Tuesday night through Christmas day.

Light showers are expected to move in as early as Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night to the Desert Southwest.

More widespread and scattered showers are expected to be on Wednesday (Christmas Eve).

Rain accumulation is also possible with totals between a tenth of an inch or less or some could reach up to a quarter of an inch for the Desert Southwest.

These are just estimates, higher amounts are possible along with moderate to heavy rainfall.

With this incoming active weather pattern, I am tracking cooler temperatures and wet weather for Christmas.

I am issuing a Weather Authority First Alert ACTION Days for Tuesday night through Thursday night due to widespread showers and possible flooding this week.

TRAVELCAST: Heads up to those who are traveling this week! With all the expected and active weather, especially along the coast of California, will bring travel impacts and concerns.
