FIRST ALERT: Tracking tropical moisture to bring in showers later this week
Weather conditions will stay nice and seasonable through the middle of the week. Tracking an approaching tropical system that will push in showers later this week.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Happy Tuesday! We have near to slightly near to above normal temperatures this afternoon with highs trending in the mid-90s.
We are in for enjoyable weather this evening with clear skies, calm winds, and comfortable temperatures. Nice weather to spend time outdoors and have some tacos for National Taco Day on this Taco Tuesday!

TRACKING THE TROPICS: Over the weekend, tropical storm Priscilla formed in the Eastern Pacific. As of today, Priscilla has upgraded to a Category 2 Hurricane with sustained winds of 100 MPH. And it's being forecasted that Priscilla will remain a hurricane through Wednesday, before going back to a tropical storm.
Looking at Priscilla's path, it is currently showing that the storm is moving north-northeast toward the Desert Southwest, which means it will make landfall as a tropical depression right near Arizona's border state line, but we are expected to get remnants from Priscilla later this week.

This surge of moisture from Hurricane Priscilla is expected to bring widespread and daily rain showers starting Thursday. The greatest chances for the Desert Southwest are looking Thursday and Friday.

We may start to see some spotty showers early Thursday morning, but the best opportunities to see more scattered and widespread showers is Thursday night through Friday night.

Right now, rain totals for our area are looking a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts in thunderstorms. However, it's being forecasted that rain totals on the high end could range up to 2.50".
There are no alerts issued yet, but there is a possibility that localized flooding could occur.

We are going to stay sunny and dry with seasonable temperatures through Wednesday, with cooler temperatures returning later this week, but the main focus is the high rain chances Thursday-Friday.
Right now, I am issuing a Weather Authority FIRST ALERT to prepare for the active showers and possible flooding for Thursday and Friday for the Desert Southwest, which will lead to Weather Authority First Alert Action Day on those days. I will keep tracking and bring more details as we get closer.
