Adelita Grijalva wins Arizona Special Election
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Adelita Grijalva will become the next U.S. Representative for Arizona.
An special election was for Adelita Grijalva (D) and Daniel Butierez (R) to take the seat of the late Raul Grijalva.
Several candidates ran for Arizona's 7th Congressional District.
We spoke to locals about who were ready to have their voices heard for this election.
Grijalva posted to X saying, "We made history - juntos. Now, let's get to work!"
Adelita for Congress sent out a press release with a statement about her victory.
"The voters of Southern Arizona sent the country a loud message tonight: We reject the MAGA agenda and we demand a Congress that will hold this administration accountable," said Adelita Grijalva. "More than fifty years ago, my dad started a movement – unions, environmentalists, reproductive rights advocates, LGBTQIA organizers, and immigrant rights activists – united behind a common vision of justice, dignity, and equity for all. Fifty years later, that movement is alive and well in all of us. This victory belongs to the people – el pueblo."
Grijalva pledged and outlined what she wants to do when she enters office, including being a signature to release the Epstein Files, protecting Medicaid, SNAP and other programs, as well as defend public education.
