Cain Velasquez sentenced to five years in prison in shooting case

(KYMA, KECY) - Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been sentenced to five years in prison following his case in a 2022 shooting.

Velasquez appeared in a Santa Clara County Court on March 24, where he pleaded no contest to attempted murder and other charges related to the 2022 case.

The shooting occurred during a high-speed chase in Morgan Hill and San Jose, where Velasquez fired at a truck carrying three people, including a man accused of molesting his young relative.

One of the bullets hit and injured the driver.

While the Deputy DA requested a sentence of 30 years to life, Velasquez's defense team asked for time served and probation.

Velasquez was born in Salinas but raised in Yuma.
