FIRST ALERT: Tracking an incoming system that will bring in winds, cooler temps, and rain chances Thursday-Friday

This next system will bring breezy conditions, much cooler temperatures, and rain chances to the region on Thursday and Friday.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Tracking a strong lower pressure system that is inching closer to the Desert Southwest and it will bring in breezy to locally windy conditions, much cooler temperatures, and higher rain chances.

Heavier and more significant rainfall is looking to favor along the coast and in southern California as early as today. For us, I am tracking rain chances on Thursday night and into Friday morning.

The greatest chance for heavier and more widespread rain is looking early Friday morning.

Any rain accumulation is looking very little for most areas. Right now, it's looking less than a tenth of an inch for most and a few spots could get as much as a tenth of an inch.

Today also marks 210 days since Yuma has seen measurable rainfall and the last time we got measurable rain was on August 7th, 2024.

Due to the strong winds and dust I am issuing a Weather Authority First Alert ACTION DAY for Thursday for the Desert Southwest.

We will have strong west winds over 35 MPH which will lead to widespread blowing dust and unhealthy air quality.

A Wind Advisory is issued for Imperial and La Paz counties on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (PST) for strong west winds with gusts up to 45 MPH.

Breezier conditions will begin to move in this evening toward the west and in Imperial County, gustier winds will then take over Thursday.

Prepare for the winds now and secure and cover your outdoor items we will have strong westerly winds on Thursday with gusts of 35-45 MPH.

We will have more winds and higher rain chances Thursday and Friday with chillier temperatures, as highs will drop back into the upper 60s.

After this next storm system moves out for the weekend, a ridge of high pressure will build resulting in warmer and drier weather.

I am tracking another weather disturbance that may turn conditions more unsettled next week bringing back rain chances, winds, and cooler temperatures.
