Tracking Excessive heat and tropical moisture

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until Thursday for portions of Yuma and Imperial Counties, where highs could reach as highs as 116 degrees.

Remember to practice heat safety at all hours of the day as these types of temperatures are very dangerous.

Monsoonal moisture has caused some isolated and spotty showers over the last few days is starting to shift east.

This will allow a brief drying for now, but storms could potentially still pop-up come Thursday night.

Tropical Storm Hilary formed off the coast of Mexico early this morning, the storm sustained winds 40 miles per hour according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of now, Tropical Storm Hilary is expected to intensify into a hurricane as it approaches Baja California.

This will lead to increasing moisture from this tropical disturbance, which will result in cooler temperatures, significantly better chances for widespread rainfall, gusty winds, and flooding.

Rain chances are looking likely on Saturday to Monday where precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch could be possible.
