Extreme heat continues and storm chances climb this weekend

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Hot conditions will continue across the region going into the weekend.

Near-record highs are still possible again on this Friday.

Excessive Heat Warning will remain in effect until Saturday evening for the Desert Southwest.

Remember to hydrate and use heaty safety to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Slightly cooler temperatures are expected by Sunday, but with the increase in monsoonal moisture, dew points will rise making it feel hotter.

Thunderstorm chances will increase, first across higher terrain going into the weekend and then eventually across lower deserts by the end of the weekend and extending into early next week.

Chance for showers within our area is possible early Sunday morning.

With the increase in storm potential strong gusty winds will be possible.
