Antelope Union High School District taken over by the state

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - After five years of overspending their budget, the Antelope Union High School District (AUHSD) was taken over by the state.

At Monday's Arizona State Board of Education Meeting, both AUHSD and Yuma County presented before the board, where the board unanimously voted to put the district into receivership.

The Antelope Union High School District is in debt by around $1 million.

A school gets receivership status when the plan that it made to improve low performance was not successful.

A receiver is a person or group appointed that is assigned to work with the school in its improvement process.

In this case, the state of Arizona is the receiver.

County Superintendent Tom Hurt said the school will continue running as normal.
